What a DNS lookup shows
DNS is the set of records that attach a name to a server and a mail system. This tool lists A, AAAA, MX, NS, TXT, CNAME, SOA and CAA. The chart counts how many records each type has. The blocks below show the value, priority and TTL.
After a move, a mail setup or an SSL validation, this is how you see whether the record has propagated. A new record does not appear on every resolver at once. An empty type means that record is not published.
| Type | Job | If it is empty |
|---|---|---|
| A | Name to IPv4 | The site does not resolve |
| AAAA | IPv6 address | The site works on IPv4 only |
| CNAME | Alias to another name | Usually not used on the zone apex |
| MX | Mail server and priority | Mail is not delivered |
| NS | Authoritative name servers | The name does not resolve |
| TXT | SPF, verification and other text | Mail or panel checks fail |
| SOA | Zone serial and timers | Propagation is harder to follow |
| CAA | Which certificate authority may issue | Any authority may issue |
